Canada - Part IV
Vancouver and Vancouver Island
After three days of traveling aboard the Alaska Marine Highway, we finally arrived on the 16th of August in Bellingham, Washington. From there, we crossed the Canadian border once again, this time with our motorhome, returning to Canada. We spent two fantastic days exploring the vibrant city of Vancouver, taking in its sights and energy before catching a ferry to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. The next 18 days were filled with adventure as we journeyed through some of the island's more remote and picturesque northern spots, including Rock Bay, Telegraph Cove, and Cape Scott.
One of the highlights of our stay in Telegraph Cove was booking a whale-watching trip on a zodiac boat. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t cooperate; it was rainy and misty, and despite our excitement, we didn’t spot any whales that day. Nonetheless, the experience was memorable in its own right. Before heading south again, we spent two peaceful days in San Josef Bay, a secluded and stunningly beautiful area that felt like a hidden gem.
Our next destination was Ucluelet, and the well-known town and famous beach of Tofino. We took the opportunity to enjoy some lovely hikes along the shore, watching surfers bravely attempt to catch the perfect wave. Continuing our journey along the coast, we made our way to Port Renfrew, a quaint town nestled around a charming bay.
Before saying goodbye to Vancouver Island, we spent two delightful days in Victoria. One of the most unforgettable moments of the trip came during a sunset whale-watching tour. Unlike our previous attempt, this excursion was a complete success—we were fortunate to witness numerous humpback whales breaching and diving in the golden light of the setting sun. It was the perfect ending to our time in Canada, leaving us with lasting memories of this breathtaking country.
