Canada - Part I
Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island,
and New Brunswick
On April 1, we began our Canadian adventure in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Our first stop was Peggy's Cove, where Robert enjoyed his first Canadian lobster. After a brief visit to Lunenburg, we spent our first night near the Medway Head Lighthouse.
We traveled through Kejimkujik National Park to Digby and continued to Brier Island, where we camped in a beautiful, secluded spot near the Western Lighthouse. Our plans were delayed in Wolfville for the next two days as we waited out a snowstorm.
As the solar eclipse day approached, we headed to Prince Edward Island (PEI). Initially, we planned to take the ferry to Newfoundland, but unfavorable weather forecasts prompted us to stay on PEI, where our chances of witnessing the solar eclipse were higher. We spent three nights at the West Point Lighthouse, enjoying clear skies and an amazing total solar eclipse.
Next on our itinerary was Cape Breton, where we drove along a stunning scenic route. In the north, we camped on the beach at Meat Cove before heading to Sydney, where we visited the Fortress of Louisbourg in the pouring rain.
We continued our journey along the northeast coast of New Brunswick towards the Gaspé Peninsula. Unaware that all campgrounds were closed for the season, we had to find alternative overnight parking, which was sometimes challenging.
