Canada - Part III
Alberta, British Columbia and Yukon
On May 8, we entered Alberta via the Trans-Canada Highway, with our first stop being Dinosaur Provincial Park. On the night of May 10-11, we watched the northern lights near Drumheller. We then traveled north through Red Deer to Rocky Mountain House to attend the AOA Expo.
On May 12, we drove to Banff National Park, staying for two days before continuing to Kootenay National Park. After a detour to Canal Flats, we enjoyed a relaxing day at Radium Hot Springs. We returned to Banff before heading to Lake Louise and Jasper National Park.
On May 29, we began our drive on the Alaska Highway from Dawson Creek. Before reaching Watson Lake, we crossed into the Yukon and continued to Dawson City. From there, we embarked on the Dempster Highway, aiming to cross the Arctic Circle and reach the Arctic Ocean at Tuktoyaktuk in the Northwest Territories. However, 40 km before Eagle Plains, our journey was cut short by a major gearbox oil leak. Unable to repair the motorhome in such a remote location, we had to be towed nearly 1,000 km south to Whitehorse.
After our motorhome was repaired, we resumed our travels on June 17, returning to Dawson City. We had a wonderful time there with a Luxembourgish woman who had lived in the area for over thirty years.
On June 23, we took the Top of the World Highway to Alaska.
